Mix It Like A Record - Mixing Theory
54m
Mix It Like A Record - Mixing Theory is a unique approach to presenting broad mixing concepts. Multi-Platinum Grammy-winning Mixer Charles Dye and Producer Jon Kagi travel from coast to coast stopping at metaphorical landmarks along the way to talk about mixing. One example of this is the chapter Space Cowboy - where Charles discusses reverb & space in the mix while standing on precarious cliff ledges of the Grand Canyon. Each time a concept is outlined in this way, we then land back in the studio to understand how the said theory finds its application in the mixing environment.
After discussing the history of distortion at the Jimi Hendrix Museum - Experience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle WA - Dye goes over the way he achieves analog saturation on the digital mix buss and mix buss compression.
Additionally, Dye shows and explains each and every plug-in he starts his mixes with - the same template that comes in the audio download of Mix It Like A Record. Finally, Dye reveals the un-mixed song and auditions it - as we highlight ways to engage with elements of the mix.
